Radiation Oncology
When radiation was first introduced to the world of medical treatment and diagnosis over a century ago, its ability to shrink and even eradicate tumors that is now possible today was unthinkable. As the only academic radiation oncology practice in Indiana, the Indiana University School of Medicine's Department of Radiation Oncology takes seriously the responsibility to ensure that the citizens of Indiana have access to quality, state-of-the-art radiation oncology services.
Radiation Oncology is housed in the Indiana Cancer Pavilion, the same building that houses the other interdisciplinary clinical programs of the IU Simon Cancer Center. This enables patients to receive radiation therapy treatments and to be followed by the physician team treating the patient all in one building.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is also helping to create better ways of treating diseases which respond to radiation therapy. IU Simon Cancer Center patients are among the first to benefit from these new treatments, having unique access to both standard of care and clinical trial options.
